Former CNN anchor Don Lemon is officially married.
On Saturday (April 6), Lemon tied the knot with longtime partner Tim Malone in New York City, per PEOPLE.
The couple's wedding ceremony was held at Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church in midtown Manhattan. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States ambassador to the United Nations, officiated the wedding in front of roughly 140 guests including former Today show anchor Matt Lauer, Real Housewives of New York City alum Luann de Lesseps, Sex and the City and Emily in Paris creator Darren Star, Tamron Hall, and Alec and Hilaria Baldwin, and more celebrities.
The grooms incorporated marriage traditions from each of their families during the ceremony.
“Tim is from a big Irish family, so we planned a big Irish blessing in there in his ceremony," Lemon said.
Lemon also noted that the couple jumped over a broom at the end of the ceremony as an homage to the way enslaved people in the American South recognized their marriages.
The pair, who have been engaged for five years, said it was important to them to have a big, traditional wedding day. Malone, who was raised Catholic, and Lemon, whose family is Baptist, both knew they "wanted to have a religious service.”
“We wanted to make a public statement,” Malone said, “and we wanted to involve our loved ones. We obviously could have easily gone to city hall. We could have used Covid as a perfect excuse to do something really quiet. But I think this is also a message. For I don't know what percent of our guests, on both sides, but for a lot of them it's going to be their first gay wedding.”
