I really did not get a chance to address the passing of New Mexico Music singer Ernestine Romero, I think because I was pretty shaken up by it. She meant so much to everyone in the New Mexico music scene and those that are fans of New Mexico music. She was a legend in Northern New Mexico and surrounding areas. She was so talented and so young. Watching from the perspective of a fan, I saw her career growing as was excited to see her continue her career in the Tejano scene.
She has been performing for a long time. One of my first interviews with her when I first got into radio 17/18 years ago. She made me have an appreciate for women in the New Mexico music industry...but boy, could that girl sing. She has some powerful lungs on her and was not shy. I remember watching her at the Spanish Village thinking "She is just like Selena"... many people did describe her as the "New Mexico Music Selena"....thats exactly what she was. I saw so many little girls run up to her and want her autograph after a performance and most of the time she would bring little girls on stage with her. She was a great role model. It was cool to see her career expand as she did try different genre's of music. We at HOT 95.1 even promoted a show she was doing with MC Magic as she was opening up for him doing her R&B thing. My heart is just broken as a fan of hers and a fan of New Mexico Music. She was one of those names that would also be included in the "New Mexico Music Scene". I see other ladies that I hope continue the tradition of singing and brining that music to life ( some are my good friends) Jenna Martinez, Christina Perea, Denette Marie just to name a few. I owned many of her CD's, she has a very unique beautiful voice.
My heart is broken as a fan. She was taken too soon from us. She was so young, so talented and had so much living to do.
Below is info for her memorial services, which will be held in Northern New Mexico. Below check out a tribute a fan did for her.
